university residance Per the Legislative Decree No. 12 dated May 20, 1971, the University was founded under the name of the University of Lattakia. But to honor (the second) anniversary of Syria’s victories in the 1973 war of October (Tishreen), then the name was changed into Tishreen University, as mandated by the Legislative Decree No. 25 of 1975. Enrollment in the University began in the academic year 1971-1972 in three faculties: the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Agriculture, and the Faculty of Arts. All three Faculties were located in various parts in the city of Lattakia.
University Administration:
The University is run by: A) The University Council. B) The President of the University. The University Council looks into the administrative, executive, academic, and financial affairs of the University in addition to other matters as stated in the code of University Regulations and other effective codes. The University Council consists of the President of the University, the two Vice-Presidents, the Faculty Deans, a Teachers' Union representative, three students representing the National Union of Syrian Students, and a Ministry of Higher Education representative. The Registrar of the University acts as the secretary of the University Council. In addition to the University Council, there are two councils: i. The Council for Academic Affairs, which looks into all the academic aspects and development of the faculties. This Council consists of its President, who is the Vice-President of the university for Academic Affairs, all the Faculties’ Vice-Deans for Academic Affairs, Teachers' Union representative, and two Graduate student representatives. The Assistant Registrar of the University acts as the Secretary of this Council. ii. The Council for Students’ Affairs, which looks into all aspects related to student issues or whatever matters referred to it by the University Council. The Council for Student Affairs consists of its President, who is the Vice-President of the University for Administrative and Students’ Affairs, and the Faculties' Vice-Deans for Students’ Affairs, a Teachers' Union representative, and two representatives from the National Union of Syrian Students. The Assistant Registrar of the University serves as the Secretary of the Council for Students’ Affairs. Each faculty is administered by the Faculty Council and the Dean. of the Faculty Council consists of the Dean of said faculty, the two Vice-Deans, Heads of Departments in the Faculty, a Teachers' Union representative, a representative from the National Union of Syrian Students, and a Graduate Student representative. The Head Secretary in the Faculty serves as the secretary of the Faculty Council. Each department in the Faculty has a General Body and a Department Council. The latter consists of the Head of the Department, the faculty members in said department, Ministry of Higher Education instructors, members of the Technical Staff in the department, a representative from the laboratory committee in the department, a student representative, and a graduate student representative (if any).
Academic Staff of the University: The academic Staff of the University consists of faculty members, Higher Education instructors, members of the technical staff, teaching assistants, and full-time engineers. The chart below indicates the number in each category:

Enrollees and degrees conferred: When Tishreen University was established, the enrollees numbered 935 in the Faculties of Arts and Humanities, Agriculture, and Sciences. Per the directions of the Correctionist Movement, this number increased tremendously (a direct result of fulfilling the Absorption Policy) so that the number of enrollees rose in 2001-2002 to 31,623.
