The Higher Institute of Languages was founded in Tishreen University in accordance with the Presidential Decree number /148/ dated 1990. Since then, the HIL has developed to become the most important language teaching centre in Lattakia on the Syrian coast.

 


 

 

 

Goals and Objectives:

The HIL aims at promoting and developing the teaching and learning of a number of living languages through organizing a variety of teaching and training courses, as well as, supporting scientific research and cultural and educational communication with the outside world.

 


 

 

Teaching Staff:

The HIL has a steadily increasing number of full-time members of teaching staff, all of which are graduates from celebrated British and French universities, and specialized in the field of teaching languages to non-native speakers. The HIL also has a number of visiting lecturers from French, British, and German   universities.

 

Current Activities:

The HIL is directly involved in developing language learning in Syria. Moreover, it is playing a very active role in providing technical support in the field of translation and interpretation for various national, regional and international functions and conferences which take place at The University of Tishreen.

 

 

Courses and Certificates:

The HIL grants authorized and internationally-recognized certificates for all students and trainees who successfully complete any one of its courses. It also organizes and runs the following international competence tests and runs preparation courses for them:

1-     ITP, TOEFL and TOEIC .

2-     IELTS (in cooperation with the British Council, Damascus, Syria).

3-     DELF: The elementary certificate in French.

4-     DALF: The advanced certificate in French.

Both tests and courses in French are held in cooperation with the French Cultural Centre, Damascus, Syria.

 

  •  The HIL holds a wide range of course for all levels in the following languages: Arabic, English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Persian, Turkish, and Japanese.

 

  •  The HIL also holds general interest courses for the general public, in addition to certain specialized courses in: Business English, English for Tourism, Medical English, English for Engineering, and special courses for postgraduate students preparing to pursue their higher studies at home universities or abroad. The HIL also runs courses in English for specific purposes to employees in different private and public sector companies and firms in Lattakia and other neighbouring Syrian cities.

7-     The Higher Institute of Languages, Damascus University.

8-     The Higher Institute of Languages, Aleppo University.

9.  The Higher Institute of Languages, Al ba'ath University.

 

Accommodation:

The HIL is ready to provide a high-quality accommodation for overseas students. The halls of residence are situated on campus within walking distance of the teaching building.

Social Activities

The HIL organizes a programme of trips to a number of tourist resorts of fascinating natural beauty on the Mediterranean coast, as well as, visits to many archaeological sites like Ugarit (home of the oldest alphabet), Salah al-Din Citadel, and Aleppo Citadel. This is in addition to visits to old bazaars in Aleppo and Damascus.
